Hydrauliska Industri AB

The name, Hiab, comes from the commonly used abbreviation of Hydrauliska Industri AB, a company founded in Hudiksvall, Sweden 1944 by Eric Sundin, a ski manufacturer who saw a way to utilize a truck's engine to power loader-cranes through the use of hydraulics.

five years

Your HIAB certification is valid for five years. You will need to undertake refresher training and assessment before your current certificate expires.

 Similar to getting your HGV license, acquiring HIAB accreditation will mean accessing training from a respected  training provider, who can prepare you to take your HIAB test. To earn the certificate, you'll usually need to complete an assessment to prove your competence, as well as a practical exam. 

 HIAB  is one manufacturer of  lorry loader/ lorry mounted crane. Some other common manufacturers are Palfinger, Fassi, HMF, Atlas, PM etc. However in the industry, regardless of the manufacturer, many people will refer to the lorry loader as a Hiab.
